Autumn Update at the Yealm Gig Club

What a way to end the summer season, with the Yealm Men's team coming 15th in the Newquay Championships! Well done boys!
After a busy winter, we have had a busy summer with lots of regattas, and many crews out enjoying rowing on our lovely river and beyond.
To kick off the season we had three mens and three ladies teams at the World Championships in the Isles of Scilly. Back with more than a bang!
With a fleet of 123, the Men's A took 30th position, Men's B 57th and Men's C 89th. Whilst our Ladies A took 90th place and Ladies B 100th. In a smaller fleet of 42 men's boats and 51 ladies boats, the Men's Supervets came 27th and the Ladies 40th. Meanwhile the Men's Vets came 8th out of 30. Fantastic rowing from everyone!
Back on the mainland, the next event took place in Salcombe, followed by Cattewater and Brixham Vets.

The Around the Island Race in Teignmouth was one of the longer races of the season!
Other regattas saw the Mens' Masters at Paignton with the Yealm earning 6th place in the Shield final.
Meanwhile the more recent regattas included the Men's Supervets in Swanage (3rd place in their final) and the Lizzie Pyne race in Dartmouth.
We need also to congratulate the Yealm Youth Team who have been taking part in a number of regattas over the summer and made it into the quarter finals of the Hayle under 14s! Well done to all the kids who took part and to Lizzie for her dedication and enthusiasm for the Youth Rowing!
Lizzie has also been busy helping with the beginners rows. There are now seperate rows for beginners (see the website and Teamo for more info) so that the open rows can be enjoyed as full rows, and so the beginners can row without the pressure of the more experienced rowers in the boat!
And finally, many congratulations to Laura and Maria on the birth of their baby boy Theo! Big love from all the crews on the Yealm! xx
